Fed: Bishop says no time limit for Nelson leadership

CANBERRA, April 20 AAP - Federal Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson is not facing a deadline
to prove his worth, his deputy says.

Reports about Dr Nelson's leadership have suggested his time may be running out to
overcome dismal opinion poll ratings.

"We're not setting time frames or time lines on this," Deputy Leader Julie Bishop told
the Nine Network today.

"Brendan's getting on with the very difficult job of being leader of the opposition
and he's doing a good job."

Ms Bishop said she, Dr Nelson and their colleagues were focusing on next month's budget.

Asked about her own ambitions, she said: "I am absolutely committed to be the deputy
leader of the party, I was elected to that position just five months ago".

On Dr Nelson's future as leader, she said: "I'm not going to crystal ball gaze".
